Summer is starting in Chicago, which means summer sports for many children and adults. With many sports' seasons beginning to get underway, more sports related injuries are beginning to come up as well. After a fairly sedentary winter, the weekend warriors, summer sports aficionados and avid gardeners are coming out to play and getting hurt in the process!
There are a few reasons why people have a tendency to get hurt:
1. There is no preparation with core strength training or exercise specific to the activity. Proper preparation which includes conditioning and the gradual increase of weight, time, and duration helps reduce the risk of injury. Using correct form with your movements will also reduce your chances of getting hurt. These are all major focuses in our rehab program at Seaman Chiropractic, and something we can help you with.
2. Many ignore an injury because you want to continue enjoying their activities. Whether it's a strain, sprain, or pain- do not ignore it! Just because you don't hurt right away doesn't mean that there isn't a problem. A recurring injury or discomfort could also be an indication of an underlying structural problem. How do you know if there is a structural issue? X-rays give us clear view, and we take them on site at our Jefferson Park office.
3. You don't go to their chiropractor who stabilizes the area and strengthens it so your joints can withstand the damages your favorite hobbies/sports can create.
