Chicago Bulls Derrick Rose injured his leg in Game 1 in the first round of the NBA basketball playoffs in 2012. Derrick Rose says finding out he had a torn ACL was like death.  A torn ACL usually occurs when a twisting force is being applied to the knee and the foot is firmly planted on the ground or upon landing. A torn ACL can also result from a direct blow to the knee, usually the outside like might happen in a football or rugby tackle.

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the four main ligaments of the knee says Dr. Cynthia Seaman. The role of the ACL is to prevent forward movement of the bones of the knee. This ligament is extremely important to the stability of the knee joint, especially in contact sports and those that require changing directions fast and twisting and pivoting movements like in basketball.

For patients who suffer from knee ligament injuries chiropractic treatment is a great option to getting to the bottom of your pain. At Seaman Chiropractic Center every patient’s treatment will differ. A typical treatment plan for a torn ACL may include rehabilitation, acupuncture and knee adjustments to improve strength, endurance and stability and to prevent new injuries. The ultimate goal will be to normalize joint function, reduce joint inflammation and pain so you can go back to your activities.
